Fiction packet

First I would like to talk about the mystery stories " the talking cat". I was really surprise when the man was talking about a cat that speaks it caught me off guard.  But the way he describes this cat makes it seem like it is a human instead of a cat, "I meet the cat and he extends on of his front paws to shake my hand", made it seem like the cat had manners. I like this because he made something that isn't realistic come alive, which made the story that much more intriguing.
Secondly, Walking the baby to the liquor store. When the story started off it didn't seem like he was going to even speak about a child but as the story continued he started to speak about how babies like to go  to the liquor store. Which made me wonder , because a baby doesn't even know what a liquor store is. I like the way he was looking from the baby's point of view instead of his.
Last, the Misdemeanors. This story was funny. The old man who robs a bowling alley for coins but makes himself seem so tough.  I think this story was inteaded to prove about about some of the things people do. Maybe to the old man he felt tough because he never did anything like that... but from an outsider looking in we don't see it as tough.

The "State as Body" Aspect of Eunuch Rule

The "State as body" Aspect of Eunuch Rule, really caught me off guard. When I first looked at this poem it was unclear what exactly he was talking about, but as I reread it , it became clear. In this poem Roberson was talking about him wanting to have children and the extreme measures he would go through, because this is how much he wanted to have to have a child. Eunuch is a man who is celibate, and not inclined to reproduce because he is not having sex. So this could defiantly explain why he felt so strongly about having a child.
The poem began with "I want to kill for my incapacity to feel", when I read this I interpreted it as his child was his weakness and he wanted to make sure could provide his child with all their needs, he also wanted his child to feel life. Then he went on to say "A bodily exchange. A new body Made not to feel alive". I feel like he was talking about when there's a new life created it can't feel right away but the exchange of bodily fluids creates this new  body. He goes on and explains the process of sex, calling the women genitals the "cherry prize" and the men genitals "Head" .
Towards the end he said " and not his absence I will kill to mate. If even with death." In the beginning he also mention how he would kill for his incapacity. And by understanding the poem title it makes the poem more clear.

after Ed Roberson

I need to get out of here  and say freedom
I need to get out of here  just for one day
I should    get out   I will so I can feel
The wind brush against my skin sounds
Of a whistle  as it sounds off my day
If this day     this day could remain
I would         I would make it my
            Forever
                and
            Forever
What else is there to say    but
I lone for a vision of the clouds, and my vivid imagination
In the creation of turning, forming, and dividing
When
         The
               Light is gone
                                  I
                                    Can
Kick Back and watch the stars
Blast away  Now that's unconditional
                   Beauty
I know! I witness it everyday
Even when the sky throws a temper-tantrum
And cries you can still sense the
                     Beauty deep inside

Bird by bird

Bird by bird was very interesting. I felt that it covered every aspect of developing the skills of writing. The author spoke about how she became a writer and how her father was the reason why she started writing. I can relate to this because my father is also the reason why I started to write.

Also, she mentioned one of the students saying you can't teach us how to write. I agree to a certain extent, you can could give a person pointers of writing , but you can't necessarily teach a person to write because it's what's on their mind and how they choose to convey a message. But when she continued she said she would just let them know how she started writing. Which I personally feel is a good way of teaching.

As I continue to read I  thought these few chapters gave me a different insight of writing, and just by reading these couple chapters the way I think about writing has improved. I know writing it about details, but there is always places that you could potentially expend on. And I think by reading this it's put me in a place to know where I should expand and where I shouldn't.

Response

In response to this weeks reading, I found the poem to be the most interesting. I thought this poem was the most interesting because it was a man speaking from a different prospective. Usually women  are known to be gold diggers. But in Langston Hughes poem  was totally different ,  he wanted the an older to women to take care of him.  Also, the way he wrote this poem was spoken like a jazzy person in the older days, and it made it more interesting.

It's just life

I am Aaliyah. A student a EMU. I love to read, and write. I'm just more passionate about writing. I am a very open-minded person, and I plan to continue that way. I feel it makes me wiser.
